Try these resources for suggestions for discussable books, for information on starting or running a book club or for discussion questions for lots of book titles.

Library Book Clubs

Duluth Public Library Book Club - Meetings are 6:30-7:30 pm in the Gold Room. For more information, call 730-4200/option 6. New members are always welcome.

    Since the April meeting was canceled because of snow, we'll be discussing "Clara and Mr. Tiffany" by Susan Vreeland from 6 - 6:45, taking a short break and then discussing "Reading Lolita in Tehran" by Azar Nafisi from 7 - 7:45. Come for both parts or only one!

  • October 17 - "The Postmistress" by Sarah Blake
  • November 21 - "The Dance Boots" by Linda LeGarde Grover
  • December 19 - talk about your favorite books; bring some to swap if you wish
  • January 16 - "Before I Go to Sleep" by S.J. Watson
  • February 20 - "Lone Survivor" by Marcus Luttrell
  • March 20 - "The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-time" by Mark Haddon
  • April 17 - the 2014 One Book, One Commuity title
  • May 15 - "The Hunger Games" by Suzanne Collins

West Duluth Book Club (West Duluth Branch Library, 5830 Grand Avenue) - Meetings are the third Monday of every month, at 3:00 p.m. The club is always looking for new members interested in reading and discussing books. No registration is needed. For more information, call 730-4280.

BookBrowse.com - information includes excerpts, book reviews, interviews and biographies of authors.

LitLovers - an online community dedicated to books and book clubs. Find a review or discussion guide. Take a short free course to help you get more out of your reading. Whip up a recipe (to match your book, of course)!

Novelist - Look for recommendations of books to read, by matching favorite authors or plots or by browsing lists of subjects and awards. For Duluth Public Library cardholders.

Reading Group Choices - a comprehensive resource for discussion guides for book clubs.

Reading Group Guides - this online community for reading groups has 1490 discussion guides.

Talking Volumes - this online book club is sponsored by the Minneapolis Star-Tribune, the Loft Literary Center and Minnesota Public Radio. Excerpts from the selected book are posted on the web site, and the author presents a program, which is also broadcast live on MPR's news stations, at St. Paul's Fitzgerald Theater.

Book Clubs for Kids and Teens:
Al's Book Club for Kids - The Today Show's Al Roker has a book club for 4th and 5th graders.

KidsRead.com - book clubs and reading guides for kids.

Young Readers Book Group - a book club for girls ages 12-16 and their mothers. The group meets once a month at Barnes & Noble (1600 Miller Trunk Highway) to discuss a book. Call 786-0710 for information.

ReadingToKids.org - titles are selected each month for grades K-5. Each month follows a theme. View this month's titles, previous months' titles or view by book title or author.

Spaghetti Book Club - a place for kids who love to read and talk about books! Check out these book reviews written and illustrated by kids for kids.

TeenReads.com - book clubs and reading guides for teens. Includes information on how to start and run a book club and how to choose what to read.
