Friends of the Duluth Public Library

The Friends of the Duluth Public Library are individuals, businesses and organizations who are interested in the Library and advocate its importance in our community.

The Friends are currently raising funds to provide ongoing support for the Library's computer needs. The goal is to raise approximately $50,000 by September 2011.

Friends Membership levels:
Basic - $10.00	Patron - $100.00
Contributor - $25.00	Benefactor - $200.00
Sponsor - $50.00
Membership term: January 1 - December 31

Please note that any membership payment above the Basic level may be considered a Family membership.

Activities of the Friends of the Library:

Raise funds for materials, equipment and programs not covered by the general library budget
Conduct an Annual Used Book Sale (members of the Friends receive early admission)
Conduct "The Littlest Holiday Sale," held in the Main Library's Superior St. lobby early in December. The sale focuses on holiday-related materials and better books that will make great gifts.
Sponsor an annual Author Dinner in the Stacks
Support library programs and events
Co-sponsor, with the UMD Library, the annual Northeastern Minnesota Book Awards
Sponsor the Bookworm Garden Club
Publish a periodic newsletter for members
Provided initial funding for BookPage, a monthly book-related newsletter, available free at the Library
Sponsor the Library Lecture series
Provided initial funding for subscription to Biography Resource Center, which provides information on more than 185,000 people from throughout history.
Provided initial funding for special collections, including Book Club in a Bag, Book Club in a Bag for Kids & Teens, DVDs and Books on Disc
Participate in volunteer opportunities, such as delivering books to homebound library users, providing security for traveling exhibits and offering beginning genealogical search assistance
Promote the Library as a vital part of the spirit of our community

Constitution and Bylaws

The Friends entered a float in the 2002 Spirit Valley Days Parade. Clifford the Big Red Dog and friends promoted the Annual Book Sale.

Board of Directors, 2009 - 2010 Meetings of the Board of Directors are held the third Tuesday of every month.
