A. Friends of the Duluth Public Library
Mystery Night in the Stacks will be held at the Mt. Royal
Branch Library this year (because of remodeling at the Main Library)
on Friday, April 18, 2008, starting at 6:00 p.m. Author Erin
Hart will be the guest speaker.
The Friends Board is in need of someone to volunteer for the position
of Treasurer.
B. Director's Report
The West Duluth Branch remained open during remodeling. There
has been a delay in the delivery of some shelving, but otherwise
the work is completed.
The remodeling of the Main Library is proceeding. Work on the
Computer Lab began March 7, and the carpeting project started
March 17. The whole project seems to be progressing pretty quickly.
Starting March 17, the top two floors of the Main Library, with the exception of the Superior Street lobby and the Circulation Desk, were closed to the public. The Green Room is open for Reference services, Internet computers, current newspapers and magazines, OPACs, reference databases, photocopier, and microfilm reader/printers. Staff are available to retrieve materials for people from both the Green Room and the Superior Street lobby.
Greg Mortenson's appearance on March 19 for the One Book, One Community program was a great success. The DECC Auditorium was mostly full, and Greg received several standing ovations from the crowd. Mayor Ness participated by introducing students who had collected money for Greg.
The resolution appointing Printha Markert to the Library Board, replacing Jim Berg, passed the Duluth City Council on March 24.
