Presentations for Caregivers and Other Professionals
Top line

 Baby reading
Book Time With Your Baby presentations to caregiver or professional groups begin with a brief explanation of the project and its history, followed by a short summary of recent research and studies on brain development, early childhood development, and literacy. Next is a discussion of the importance and benefits of sharing reading with babies and toddlers. Book Time emphasizes the importance of shared reading as a bonding experience and as a way to foster a love of reading. Depending on the group, the presentation also includes reading tips and techniques and information on the best types of materials to use with babies and toddlers.

For more information, or to schedule a Book Time presentation for your group, contact Judy Sheriff at 218-730-4211.

Library staff have presented the Book Time message to many local organizations concerned with the welfare and educational development of young children. Programs include:

As part of the initial Book Time With Your Baby project activity, Dr. Hilary Pert Stecklein (Assistant Chair of the Department of Pediatrics and Adolescent Medicine of HealthPartners, Clinical Associate Professor of the University of Minnesota, Department of Pediatrics) spent two days in Duluth, speaking about the importance of reading to brain development in infants. Her presentations included a Women's Wellness Luncheon, a meeting for Library staff, three continuing education classes for nurses, a meeting with resident physicians during their Grand Rounds, and visits to several ECFE (Early Childhood Family Education) sites.
