This index contains names and dates of obituaries printed in the Duluth News-Tribune and Duluth Herald newspapers from 1962 to the present. Another useful site to try is the St. Louis County Death Records Index, which covers 1870 to the present.
To
search for an obituary:
Fill in one or more of the search
boxes below and then click on the Search button. When searching
for very common last names (such as Anderson, Johnson, Nelson
and Peterson), please enter the first name and/or year of death. When searching for common last names (e.g. Anderson, Johnson, Nelson, Peterson, etc.), enter the first name and/or the year of death.
When searching by name, select "Loose Search" to broaden the search results or "Strict Search" to narrow the search results. Example: if you enter the name "Ward" as a first name, a Loose Search will show "Edward" but a Strict Search will show only "Ward."
Changing the record limit to a maximum of 1000 will also help retrieve more results.
How to get copies of obituaries:
Copies of obituaries are sent through the mail and cost $2.00 for each obituary. This charge covers printing and postage.

Do not send money with your request. You will receive a bill with the obituary.
The Duluth newspapers may be viewed on microfilm at the Main Library. The microfilm readers may also be used to print copies of obituaries and other articles. The cost is $.10 per page.
