Request an Obituary

Copies of obituaries are sent through the mail and cost $2.00 for each obituary. This charge covers printing and postage.

You may mail requests to:

Duluth Public Library
Reference Department
520 W. Superior St.
Duluth, MN 55802

Do not send money with your request. You will receive a bill with the obituary.

The Duluth newspapers may be viewed on microfilm at the Main Library. The microfilm readers may also be used to print copies of obituaries and other articles. The cost is $.10 per page.

You can also fill out the online request form below

To request copies of obituaries from the Duluth newspapers, fill out the form below.

If you found a reference to the obituary in our Obituary Index, include all the information from the entry: name, date, page and newspaper (Tribune or Herald).

If the death predates our index or doesn't appear in our index, you may still submit the request. Fill in the person's name and any other information that you know (approximate date of death, town, etc.). Library staff will try to find an obituary, but we cannot promise results. Newspapers from the early 1900s often did not include many obituaries.

There is a $2.00 charge for each obituary you request. The Library will send you a bill and instructions for payment along with the copies. Be sure to include your mailing address in the form below.

PLEASE NOTE: Requests will remain confidential. However, the Internet is not secure and it is possible for others to read information sent over the web.
